FAQs
Will I need to line my chimney?
Bristol Stove Co. recommends that you always use a chimney liner when installing a woodburning or solid fuel stove. A chimney liner will help to keep the gases from your stove warm as they rise through the chimney. In turn, this improves the draw from your stove, maximising it’s efficiency.
Another key reason to always use a chimney liner is safety. A chimney liner fully contains smoke and gases from your woodburning stove as they rise through your chimney, keeping your home safe from dangerous carbon monoxide leaks. It will also reduce the chance of a chimney fire as the smooth interior prevents soot and tar build up.
What is the difference between 316 and 904 liner?
316 and 904 refers to the different grades of stainless steel, with 904 grade being a higher quality than 316. For most stove installations, 316 grade liner is a durable option when burning wood. If you plan to burn coal or smokeless fuel, then 904 grade is best due to it’s maximum corrosion resistance
What parts are needed when lining a chimney?
In addition to a flue liner, Bristol Stove Co recommends that you also fit a cowl at the top of your chimney to prevent rain and debris from falling into your chimney.
At the bottom of your chimney you will need a length of stove pipe to connect your stove to the main part of your chimney system. To connect the stove pipe to the chimney liner, you will also need an MA adapter.
Finally, you will need a register plate kit that blocks off the gap around your stove pipe to prevent heat from the room disappearing up the chimney, and a carbon monoxide alarm in the room where the stove is fitted.
All of these items can be conveniently purchased together in our Chimney Liner Kits
Do I need a chimney cowl?
Yes, a chimney cowl is highly recommended when installing a woodburning or multifuel stove.
A chimney cowl will sit at the top of your chimney, usually on the chimney pot, and reduce rain ingress into your chimney. It will also help to prevent birds and debris from entering the chimney and potentially causing blockages.
